Questions
Wedding Budget Calculator: common questions
Who is the wedding budget calculator for?
It is for couples who know roughly what they can spend and want a sensible starting split before talking to suppliers. It divides your total across venue and catering, photography, outfits, flowers, entertainment, rings and stationery, transport, ceremony fees and a contingency, using typical UK guideline percentages that you can then change.
Can I change the split to suit our priorities?
Yes. Every category has its own slider, so you can move money towards what matters most to you, such as photography or the evening, and the totals update as you go. Reset to guideline split takes you back to the starting figures, and Start again lets you enter a new budget or guest count.
Is my budget saved or sent anywhere?
No. The figures are worked out in your browser and are not saved, so they reset if you reload the page. Use Copy my breakdown or Print / Save as PDF to keep them. The optional Send this to Tim link only opens your own email app with the breakdown written out, and nothing is sent unless you send it.
How much contingency should we keep?
The calculator starts with around a tenth of the budget set aside for miscellaneous costs and contingency. That covers things that are easy to forget, such as extra evening guests, alterations, delivery charges and tips. If your plans are still changing, keeping that line intact until the final numbers are in is a sensible approach.
Tim’s tip
Budget for the evening as well as the day. A good evening is what most guests remember, so check the entertainment line covers the full finish time, not just a shorter set.
