The estimate updates as you type or paste. Leave in stage directions like (pause) or lines about raising a glass — the timer accounts for them.

Questions
Speech Timer: common questions
Who is the speech timer for?
It is for anyone giving a wedding speech, such as the best man, father of the bride or the couple, and for whoever is planning the order of the speeches. You paste the speech in and see how long it is likely to take at a nervous, comfortable or confident pace, with an optional allowance for laughs and toasts.
How do I plan the timings for all the speeches?
Time each speech in turn, enter whose speech it is and press Add to running order. Then set when the speeches start, how many minutes of buffer to allow per speech and when you want the party or first dance to begin. Copy running order or Print gives the master of ceremonies a copy.
Is my speech text stored or sent anywhere?
No. Your speech is read in your browser to count the words and work out the timing. It is not saved and is not sent to Mobile Disco Network. If you choose Send this to Tim, your email app opens with a draft containing the speech schedule only, and you decide whether to send it.
How long should a wedding speech be?
There is no fixed rule, but guests listen best when each speech is kept fairly short, and several long speeches can push back the rest of the day. Use the timer to check each one, then compare the total with your planned party start time so the evening schedule stays realistic.
Tim’s tip
Ask each speaker to practise out loud with the microphone they will use, even briefly, and to hold it close and steady. Most speeches that cannot be heard are a microphone technique problem, not a volume one.
