A Mid-Norfolk DJ for more than four decades

Mid-Norfolk has been part of my patch for a very long time. I’ve been a member of the Wayland Chamber of Trade since 1983, just down the road in Watton, and Dereham, Toftwood, Swanton Morley and the villages in between are all familiar ground.

The Dereham Times featured my story in 2024 (opens in a new tab), under the headline “Norfolk DJ Tinsel Tim still going after 48 years”. Two years on, that’s 50, and anyone booking DJ hire in Dereham still gets me, in person, from the first call to the last song.

“Tim was BRILLIANT! He listened to our brief, was polite, and delivered what we requested — above and beyond! We had the best evening of our lives.”

Dereham venues I’ve DJ’d at

Dereham’s parties mostly happen in its halls and clubs, and I’ve played plenty of them. If yours isn’t below, I almost certainly know one just like it.

  • Dereham Memorial Hall
  • Dereham Cricket Club
  • Dereham Conservative Club
  • Toftwood Social Club
  • The Scout hall, for youth and family discos
  • Hunters Hall, Swanton Morley
  • Swanton Morley Village Hall
  • Mencap, Swanton Morley, for discos for people with learning disabilities

For weddings, I’ve also played some of the best-known barns and country houses within reach of Dereham: Godwick Great Barn near Tittleshall, Hockwold Hall, Chaucer Barn near Holt, Roundwood at Taverham and Pentney Abbey near King’s Lynn.

Planning a party at a Dereham social club

Social and members’ clubs are some of the best-value party venues around Dereham, with a bar already sorted and a room that’s used to a disco. A few things are worth asking when you book.

Guests and signing in

Members’ clubs often ask for non-member guests to be signed in, or for the function room to be booked by a member. Check how it works so nobody is held up at the door.

Last orders and last song

The club runs the bar, so its licence decides last orders. Find out when the bar shuts and when the music must stop. They aren’t always the same time.

Function room or main bar?

Make sure you’ve booked a room of your own, not a corner of the main bar on a busy night. It makes a big difference to the dancefloor and the volume.

Children at the party

Some clubs have rules about children after a certain time. If it’s a family party, ask early so the timings work for everyone.

DJ hire in Dereham: your questions

Booking & prices

What does DJ hire in Dereham cost?

Children’s discos start at £225, birthdays, anniversaries and Boogie Bingo at £450, and weddings at £525, up to £1,950 for full ceremony-to-evening cover. Your written quote is fixed for your date, hours and venue.

Do I have to pay it all at once?

No. A 45% deposit secures the date, and the balance can go on an interest-free monthly plan if that suits you better.

Would Boogie Bingo work at our club?

It’s made for clubs. Musical bingo with prizes, then a full disco, from £450. Members get a proper night out without anyone having to organise the games.

Can I add the Selfie Pod?

Yes. It’s £375 on its own and cheaper as part of a DJ package. Everything is digital, so guests have their photos and GIFs on their phones before they get home.

Your venue & the night

Can I come and see you play first?

Yes. My next free public event is the Watton Christmas Lights Switch-On, on Sunday 29 November 2026 from 1pm to 4pm on Watton High Street, a short drive from Dereham. All my public dates.

Do you DJ youth and Scout discos?

Yes. I’m enhanced DBS checked, the music is family friendly with swearing cut out of the tracks, and the games are built into the disco.

Do you ever send another DJ?

I never have. I play every party myself and I’ve never missed a booking.

Can you tone down the lights and volume?

Yes. Sensory-Friendly Disco Mode is free: reduced strobe and flash, a warning before any visual effect, and quieter areas of the room. It’s ideal for groups like Mencap.
