Wedding DJ FAQ
This wedding DJ FAQ covers what couples ask Tim most: timings, set-up, the first dance, announcements and how he keeps every age group dancing.
Tim’s tip: Send me your first dance song early, and tell me the exact version. Then I can make sure I have the best-quality copy ready and the moment sounds perfect.

Weddings: your questions
What time does Tim arrive to set up?
Tim normally arrives at least two hours before your start time to set up the sound and lighting and do a full sound check.
That can change to suit your venue's access times, and for all-day weddings the equipment can be set up before the day begins if your venue allows.
How long does a wedding DJ play for?
An evening reception usually runs for 5 hours, for example 7pm to midnight.
An all-day package covers 9 hours, from the ceremony and wedding breakfast through to the evening party. Smaller celebrations and drinks receptions suit a shorter set of about 3.5 hours. Start and finish times can move to fit your plans.
Will Tim act as MC and make the announcements?
Yes.
Tim can announce the grand entrance, call guests to the wedding breakfast, introduce the speeches, and lead the cake cutting, first dance, buffet, bouquet toss and your send-off. You agree the running order with him beforehand, and he uses wireless microphones so he can speak from the best spot in the room.
What does Tim wear?
Smart formal wear at every wedding, usually a suit or trousers with a shirt and waistcoat.
He can dress to a theme, such as black tie or a 70s night, if you'd like. During set-up he wears a branded polo shirt, then changes before guests come in. Tim never drinks alcohol before or during an event.
How does the DJ set-up look?
Tidy and smart.
Cables and cases are hidden behind a starcloth or a neat booth front, and the lighting is professional and computer-controlled, so it adds to your room rather than cluttering it.
How is the first dance handled?
Tim announces you, dims the lights and plays the exact version of your song.
You can choose to have the floor to yourselves all the way through, or have Tim invite guests to join you halfway. Some packages include a snow or bubble effect for the first dance, if your venue allows it.
How do we plan music for an all-day wedding?
Think of the day in stages: arrival and ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast, speeches, then the evening party.
Each needs a different mood, building from calm to party. With one DJ all day, the music flows from one stage to the next without changing supplier. The free Wedding Day Timeline Builder helps you map it out.
Do you provide music for the ceremony and drinks reception?
Can we choose our own music playlist for our wedding reception or party?
This is your celebration, and you have complete control.
You can submit your custom track list and a "Do Not Play" list directly through your online client portal. On the night, I take requests from your guests using an interactive touch-screen console facility. As an expert music collector specialising in retro eras from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s up to contemporary chart hits, I blend your choices together to keep the dancefloor packed.
Can we choose our own music and submit a Do-Not-Play list?
What does a mobile disco package include?
Every wedding package includes professional sound and LED lighting, and a playlist built around your requests.
Can you play music for mixed-age guests?
Do you provide background music during the meal?
Yes.
Can we see Tim perform before we book?
Yes.
Tim plays public events across the region, which are listed on the Public Events page, and you're welcome to come and see him. You can also read reviews from real clients on the Reviews page and on the Norfolk Trusted Trader site.
What makes Tim different from other wedding DJs?
He's Norfolk's only Trading Standards Approved DJ, he plays every booking himself and he has never missed one.
Every package includes live QR code song requests, the Last One Standing quiz game and a client portal for planning. You also get free use of more than 60 wedding planning tools on the website.
Has Tim played at venues like ours?
Most likely.
In 50 years Tim has played hotels, barns, marquees, country houses, village halls, golf clubs and pubs across the four counties. Tell him your venue when you enquire, and he'll let you know what works best there.
What are the most popular wedding add-ons?
Couples often add the Vintage Selfie Pod with a red carpet, venue uplighting, a snow or bubble first dance effect, a confetti cannon finale or a game of Boogie Bingo.
Once you've booked, your client portal shows the add-ons at client prices.
What wedding games work well?
Tim's Last One Standing quiz is included free with every package.
Guests play on their phones, with questions about the two of you. The shoe game is a classic too, and the free Wedding Games Question Generator writes the questions for you.
What are popular wedding favours?
Popular choices include sweets or chocolates, mini bottles of prosecco, seed packets, candles, personalised biscuits, small jars of honey or jam, and charity donations in your guests' names.
Edible favours rarely get left behind.
What flowers are popular for UK weddings?
Roses, peonies, hydrangeas, gypsophila, eucalyptus, ranunculus, sweet peas, dahlias and lisianthus are among the favourites, depending on the season.
The free Wedding Flower Picker shows what's in season for your date.
What drinks should we serve at our wedding reception?
Most couples serve a welcome drink, wine with the meal, a toast for the speeches, and a bar for the evening.
Prosecco, Pimm's and a signature cocktail are popular, with good alcohol-free options too. The free Wedding Drinks Calculator works out how much you need.
Does my wedding venue need you to have insurance and safety certificates?
Yes — most venues across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire need it.
Can you work at venues without a resident sound system?
Yes.
Can you work outdoors?
Yes, outdoor ceremonies and parties are very possible, as long as the weather is kind and there's a suitable power supply.
What happens if the venue has a sound limiter?
Many wedding venues have a sound limiter, and I work with them regularly.
Will Tim Daymond personally DJ at our wedding?
Yes, of course!
How much does a wedding DJ cost in Norfolk?
Wedding DJ packages start from £525 for the Micro Wedding Celebration.
When should I book for a Peterborough wedding or party?
Once you have the date and venue.
Can I book Tim for my own wedding or party after seeing him at one of these events?
Yes.
What sweets work well on a sweet cart?
Classics like jelly beans, fizzy cola bottles, flying saucers, foam bananas, white mice, Love Hearts, rhubarb and custards and chocolate buttons go down well.
Choose colours to match your theme, and include a few vegan and gluten-free options.
Is it only for weddings?
No.
