Planning tips
Planning a decades night guests will dance to
Start with the years your guests were teenagers
People dance hardest to the songs from their teens and early twenties. For a 60th birthday in 2026, that is roughly the late 1970s to the mid 1980s; for a 40th, the late 1990s and 2000s. Tick those decades first, then add one either side for older and younger guests.
Mix floor-fillers with sing-alongs
A run of dance tracks keeps the floor busy, but a well-known sing-along every few songs brings back people who have stopped for a drink. Use Regenerate to try different mixes and keep the version with the most songs you know everyone will recognise.
Let the theme carry through the room
A decades dress code, a few props and a photo booth turn a playlist into a proper themed night. The theme and costume idea generator suggests outfits by era, and the photo booth props maker prints signs to match.
Tim’s tip
Send your DJ your must-play list and a short do-not-play list. A handful of each is more useful than a long list, as it leaves room to read the room on the night.

Common questions
Will Tim actually play these exact songs on the night?
This playlist is a starting point to show the kind of tracks and mix you can expect — Tim builds the full set around your must-plays, your crowd and how the night unfolds, so the actual running order will differ.
Can I pick just one decade?
Yes — untick the decades you don't want and the playlist will only pull tracks from the ones you've selected.
Does my playlist save?
No, so use "Copy my playlist" or "Print" if you want to keep a copy, or hand it to Tim as a starting point for your night.
