This cake portion calculator works out the slices for you. Tell us your guest numbers and we'll work out how many tiers you need, how many portions that gives you, and roughly what it'll cost.

Tiers & portions worked out for you Rough cost by style Free, no sign-up

1. Your guest numbers

Cake is usually served to everyone at the party, plus any latecomers who'll have a slice too.

2. Slice size

This changes how many portions each tier gives you.

3. Cake style & budget

This sets the rough cost per portion — your baker's actual quote will depend on their pricing.

Tim’s tip

Decide in advance who will cut and plate the cake, and when. Once it has been cut for photos, it is easy for it to sit untouched while everyone is dancing.

Common questions

How many cake portions do I need for my party?

It depends on your guest numbers and whether latecomers will have a slice too. Enter your numbers above and we'll add a 10% buffer by default for seconds and cutting waste, then suggest a sensible number of tiers.

What's the difference between standard and generous slices?

Standard slices are tea-time-sized portions and give you the most servings per tier. Generous slices are bigger, dessert-sized portions, so you'll need more cake to feed the same number of guests.

Will my baker's price match the cost estimate here?

Not exactly — this is a rough guide based on typical pricing for each style, so your baker's actual quote will vary depending on their pricing, your flavours and any custom design work.
