Questions

Wedding Vow Builder: common questions

How long should wedding vows be?

Around one minute is plenty, which is about 120 to 150 words. The builder shows the word count and how long your vows take to say.

Can we write our own vows in a civil ceremony?

In England and Wales you can add your own words, but they must not be religious, and you will still say the legal words the registrar gives you. Check with your registrar first.

Should our vows match?

They don't have to match, but agree on roughly the same length and tone, so one of you doesn't read a poem while the other says two lines.

Is anything I type saved or shared?

Your answers and vows are saved in this browser only, so you can come back to them. Nothing is sent to Mobile Disco Network.

Tim’s tip

Read your vows out loud at least three times before the day. Words that look fine on paper can trip you up when you say them, and practice stops the wobble.
