Questions
The Year You Were Born Poster: common questions
Where do the facts come from?
The Number One comes from the Official UK Singles Chart, prices from the ONS long-run price index, the Postal Museum and Nationwide's house price index, and the news and films from Wikipedia's year pages. Each source is linked on this page, and every fact was checked against them in October 2026.
Why is there no Number One for some years?
The UK singles chart started on 14 November 1952, so years before that show a note instead of a song.
How is the value of £1 worked out?
We divide the ONS long-run price index for the latest full year by the index for the year you pick. It is a guide to how prices have risen, not an exact figure for every item.
Can I print it bigger than A4?
Yes, choose A3 before you download the PDF. Print at actual size (100%) for the best result.
Tim’s tip
For a milestone birthday I play a set from the year the guest of honour was born. Put this poster by the door and people stop to talk about it all night.
