Tinsel Tim, the Norfolk DJ, began life as a showman long before he became a business owner. I’m Tim Daymond, and I still love entertaining a crowd after 50 years.
So here is my story, from ballroom lessons to glittering stage outfits. You will also find practical advice for booking any entertainer with confidence.
Who Is Tinsel Tim? Meet Norfolk’s Showman DJ
I’m a DJ entertainer who blends music, presentation and personal service. Perhaps you’re planning a wedding, a birthday or anniversary, or a corporate event. Either way, I adapt to the audience.
So the name Tinsel Tim came from my glittering stage outfits. In fact, those sparkling costumes were a hallmark of my shows in the late 70s and 80s.
My trading names changed over the years, from Timsha in 1976 to Tinsel & Satin in 1981. Then came Radio Gets Wild in 1995. Finally, I founded Mobile Disco Network in 2013.

Tinsel Tim the Dancer
I first danced at just 11 years old, to traditional ballroom music. I also attended Masonic Lodge ladies’ nights with my family, which taught me how a formal evening flows.
After a short break, I joined a professional studio and trained there for five dedicated years. During that time, I specialised exclusively in freestyle disco dancing.
As a result, I competed in the 1981 World Championships, which remains a proud memory. Later, I developed a solo cabaret act. Consequently, I performed at my own events and also at other mobile discos.
Tinsel Tim, Norfolk DJ and Music Specialist
I have played the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s since 1976, often when those songs were brand new. Besides, I’m an avid collector with many rare and hard-to-find tracks.
That collection makes a themed retro disco wonderfully nostalgic. For example, guests often hear songs they haven’t heard since release.
I’m also a rare specialist in old-time ballroom music. So I can add elegant sequence dances to a traditional celebration, such as a Masonic ladies’ night.

Behind the Scenes of a Professional DJ
A DJ’s work doesn’t stop when the last song ends. In fact, most of it happens behind the scenes, long before your party begins.
- National exhibitions, including PLASA in London and BPM in Birmingham
- White Label Promo and the Photo Booth Expo
- Show nights at local disco shops
- Equipment maintenance, playlist preparation and music research
- Artwork, graphics, social media and client meetings
I’m a full-time, self-employed sole trader, so I handle all of this myself. Meanwhile, when I’m not already booked, I can often help with an emergency DJ request at short notice.
My Advice for Booking Any Entertainer
My advice is simple: do your homework before you pay a deposit. First, read reviews and check how long the supplier has traded.
- Book well ahead, ideally at least 12 months for popular dates.
- Ask whether payments can spread monthly rather than in one lump sum.
- Always sign a professional contract showing a real address.
- Read the terms carefully, and check every booking detail for errors.
- Expect an invoice and receipt describing the services you booked.
- Keep your own playlist to about 20 tracks, and leave the rest for guests.
Also, stay in contact with suppliers and keep every document safe. For more tips, read my safe DJ booking checklist and the DJ booking questions page.
My own pricing is completely transparent. Simply enter your date on my availability checker, and your packages appear. Party packages start at £450, and wedding packages start at £525.
