Planning tips
Getting the most from your wedding hashtag
Check it before you print it
Search your favourite on Instagram before you choose it. If another couple already uses it, add your year or a place name, like #SarahAndTom2027 or #SarahAndTomInNorfolk. That keeps your photos together and nobody else's in them.
Make it easy to remember
Short hashtags that read clearly get used the most. Avoid tricky spellings, and use capitals at the start of each word so guests can read it at a glance. Capitals don't change the search, so #SarahAndTom and #sarahandtom find the same photos.
Tell guests early and often
Put your hashtag on your wedding website, your invitations and a sign at the reception. A sign by the bar, the photo booth or the dance floor works well, because that's where guests take photos.
Collect the photos afterwards
A few days after the wedding, search your hashtag on Instagram and save your favourites. Remember that only public posts show up, so some guests may prefer to send their photos to you directly.
Questions
Wedding Hashtag Generator: common questions
How do I choose a wedding hashtag?
Keep it short, easy to spell and unique to you. Check it on Instagram first, so your photos don't get mixed up with another couple's.
Where should we put our wedding hashtag?
On your wedding website, the invitations and a sign at the reception, by the bar or the photo booth, where guests will see it.
Do capital letters matter in a hashtag?
No. Capitals just make a hashtag easier to read, so #SarahAndTom is clearer than #sarahandtom, but both find the same photos.
Is anything saved?
Your favourites save in this browser only. Nothing is sent to Mobile Disco Network.
Tim’s tip
Pick a hashtag that's short and easy to spell, and put it on a sign by the bar or the photo booth. Guests won't use a hashtag they can't remember.
